International Women’s Day: Spotlight on Ellie Fogarty!

Victoria Livingston

On International Women’s Day we shine the spotlight on Minerva’s Ellie Fogarty, our Applications Support Manager and an inspiration for Women in Tech.

Here at Minerva we are passionate about championing women in the IT industry. In what is so often a male-dominated sector, we believe it is vital to redress the trend, to have a mixed and balanced workforce, and to encourage and support those women and girls who want to pursue a career in tech. As it is International Women’s Day, we are turning the spotlight on one of our most valued employees, Applications Support Manager Ellie Fogarty.

Unsure of what direction to take after her A Levels, Ellie had always been tempted by the world of IT but was unsure how to get started. In 2018, at the age of 20, she applied for the role of Application Support Trainee at Minerva and impressed us at her interview with the clear tenacity, numeric ability and commitment to learning that she showed.

As an Application Support Trainee, Ellie learned her trade at Minerva through a combination of shadowing other Application Support Consultants, studying for her AAT qualifications and getting to grips with the ins and outs of Exchequer software through her own independent learning. After two years, she had progressed from Application Support Trainee to Application Support Consultant, learning our Opera software alongside Exchequer. Ellie quickly made herself popular with customers and colleagues alike, providing insightful and efficient support and solving problems quickly and effectively. In 2023 she was named a Product Champion of Exchequer and in January of 2024 she was made Applications Support Manager at Minerva. Of her career and her rapid progression with Minerva to date, Ellie says:

“I think there is often a stereotype surrounding girls at school and in society where they are conditioned into thinking that problem-solving is for boys and that they can’t do it, it’s crazy. I was always good at maths at school and I knew I wanted a career that involved problem-solving, but I didn’t want to continue with academia and I knew that university wasn’t for me. I think it’s so important that girls these days are made aware that there are all these amazing opportunities out there for them in the tech industry, they just need to ignore the negative stereotyping and rise above their fears. I am going from strength to strength in my IT career, I am only 25 and I have already had two promotions. If you work hard, and you have determination, you can achieve anything!”

We think Ellie is a wonderful ambassador for Women in Tech all year round but on International Womens Day in particular we wanted to share her story and hopefully inspire other women.
