Beware Black Friday Malware

We would like to remind you to be extra vigilant this week as it is expected that due to Black Friday there will be an influx of hoax emails heading to your inbox.

Research undertaken last year by UK company, Beaming, showed that over 40% of people will start their online shopping on Black Friday during office hours.

Hoax emails could contain malicious code or phishing scams. Clicking on a bad email link or attachment could allow ransomware to infect your machine with disastrous consequences for your business.

You should take extra care when opening emails, and think first before you open any attachments or click on any links. Remember if in doubt, check with the sender first.

You can read our short guide to email safety here.

Additional steps you can take to reduce the risk:

  • Remind staff to be vigilant and highlight the consequences of a cyber attack
  • Educate your staff so that your employees learn how to spot a potentially malware infected  email
  • Provide cyber security training to your employees. The government has free cyber security training for small to medium businesses that you can access for your staff here. The training takes 45 – 75 minutes.
